We have been working closely with Make UK to create a manufacturing-specific Net-Zero Roadmap, designed to guide businesses through their complex decarbonisation journey. The roadmap has been developed in consultation with some of the major manufacturing sub-sectors and offers clear direction and highlights the major milestones required to reach the UK’s 2050 net-zero goal. It aims to encourage manufacturing businesses to take the first successful steps towards reducing their carbon footprint.
Andrew Stubbs, Director: Compliance & Reporting Services at Inspired comments:
The UK’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 is a massive undertaking, and manufacturing is a key area where transformation can happen. We are delighted to partner with Make UK on their journey to help the manufacturing sector decarbonise and play its role in the UK reaching its target.”
Stephen Phipson CBE, Chief Executive at Make UK added:
The release of the first roadmap to net-zero for the overall manufacturing sector marks the start of an exciting journey, with its challenges but also many rewards ahead. I am very proud that our members have not hesitated to take up the challenge and are bold in their vision and at the same time, wanting to align with the bigger picture and collaborate with key stakeholders.”
Whilst facing a lot of change in the coming years, manufacturers have a major opportunity with net-zero to innovate processes and reduce their energy consumption. Financing green investments, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions plus developing and exporting new products will be a challenge, but all of this will lead to increasing the attractiveness, innovation, and sustainability of the sector.
