Inspired carried out a water audit across Tapi’s portfolio of 175 locations.

Background

Tapi strives to transform the experience of shopping for new flooring and carpets by creating inviting, light-filled showrooms.

The company initially engaged Inspired’s water team to understand their growing water estate and its costs more closely.

The service allowed Tapi to focus on what they do best, providing first-rate service to their customers across the country.

Challenge

Following years of continuous growth, Tapi’s estate has grown to over 175 locations.

The team carried out a water audit across Tapi’s portfolio to uncover a range of issues. This included wastage, incorrect supplies and inaccurate rainwater disposal charges.

Solution

During their examination of Tapi’s water bills, the team identified sites where the billing may not potentially reflect actual consumption.

The team’s visits to the identified sites confirmed that although Tapi’s water consumption was low, with their estate mainly consisting of facilities for customers and staff, the company was being charged too much for what they were using.

As Tapi’s consumption per site was low, uncovering the savings potential demonstrated by our water team was a significant revelation.

The team put forward their recommendations to Tapi, which led to a procurement tender and switch to a different retailer of Tapi’s choice. Both the tendering and supplier switch processes were managed by Inspired.

Previously Tapi held water contracts with a myriad of retailers across their sites. Our team were able to consolidate this down to a single supplier.

The team also pursued significant refunds from rebates of historical, incorrect charges on Tapi’s behalf.

For example, Inspired’s in-house knowledge of a retail park site where Tapi’s Dunfermline store is located allowed the team to secure a £6,000 refund before forwarding savings of a similar amount.

Results

Wastage has been eradicated, charges corrected, and cost levels have been substantially reduced.

In total, our water audit work resulted in savings of over £60,000 for Tapi. And so far, Tapi’s new contract has also resulted in a further £50,000 in ongoing savings.

The consolidation of Tapi’s water contracts has meant the administrative burden of several suppliers has been removed, leaving the company with a monthly bill from a single supplier they can contact.

Armed with confidence that their water charges are as low as they can be, Tapi has been able to concentrate on their growing business. Inspired’s water experts continue to support Tapi as the company brings new sites into their portfolio.
