Greensleeves Care

Inspired helps Greensleeves Care turn
the tide on wasteful water consumption.

Background

Greensleeves Care is a not-for-profit providing residential, nursing and dementia care to the elderly across the South of England. They manage more than 20 care homes and have a large water spend across several sites within their portfolio.

Inspired was approached to help them reach their carbon reduction goals as Greensleeves Care sought advice on installing smart meters to improve the efficiency and
accuracy of their utilities, with the aim to reduce spend and site consumption.

Solution

To monitor the sites effectively, Inspired recommended water data loggers for the water-intensive sites and remote meter readers for the lower-consuming sites. Our software enables us to automatically analyse any irregular patterns of water consumption and issue email alerts so that action can be taken promptly.

We installed comprehensive monitoring and targeting software at Torkington House Care House, located in West London. The high usage alarms set up across the portfolio immediately triggered at the site showing a dead of night (2am – 5am) baseload of 1.26m3 per hour, equating to an annual cost of £22,017 — significantly above the benchmark level.

Immediate ROI following installation of water dats

“Following the install of the AMR device at Torkington House, we were offered expert advice and assistance from Inspired to help detect the leak. Once the engineers were on site, a quick and efficient fix was actioned for the undergound leak, helping to reduce our water cost and consumption and mitigate future risk.”

James Chatfield, Property Advisor, Greensleeves

Outcome

Inspired provided technical support, advising the care home to check water tanks
for overflow issues or faulty toilet cisterns. Some small issues were found on-site, reducing the baseload to 0.96m3 per hour.

As this was still very high usage compared to the benchmark, support from Inspired’s
experienced leak detection engineers was requested. The large leak was identified on a small run of pipework under the plant room’s concrete floor.

With our expertise, the leaking pipe was replaced whilst avoiding the excavations for the removal of the water tank, and an agreed re-routing of the pipework was completed to remove any future risk of leaks occurring under the base.

Results

At the time of the site visit, there was a dead of night baseload of 0.96m3 per hour.

Following the engineer’s work, this reduced to (and remains at) below 0.05m3 per hour, resulting in a cost saving of £21,000 per annum.

What’s next?

Inspired is pursuing a rebate claim to recover the excess historical cost. When high
usage is detected at a site, our experienced engineers can identify, locate, and fix any
water leaks that occur.
