A day in the life
Want to know more about working at Inspired?
I lead the Office Services Team, which offers support across four key areas: assurance services, health and safety, debt and office management. We are based at Inspired’s head office – Calder House in Kirkham.
As part of assurance services support, we ensure communications are delivered to the relevant person at Inspired promptly and efficiently. This includes hard copy post, a very busy ‘Bureau’ inbox, an e-bill inbox, twice-monthly meter reads, the external company phone line – and many other daily admin tasks!
Over in debt, the team makes initial enquiries on behalf of our clients, gathers essential information and documents before handing the query over to the relevant Assurance Service Analyst who liaises with the client for payment. We also deal with onsite disconnections – a time-sensitive and critical process that ensures that our client’s energy supplies are not cut off.
Meanwhile in office management, the team ensures our Head Office is a clean, welcoming and pleasant place to work. This work is very varied and includes building maintenance, general housekeeping, welcoming visitors on site and running in-house conferences in our newly created dedicated conference suite.
In terms of health and safety, we ensure the office is always a safe place to work. Although the office is a low-risk environment, daily checks are carried out throughout the building and any issues reported immediately. We also regularly review policies and procedures in collaboration with our other Health and Safety colleagues. Moreover, we are starting to liaise with our other offices to ensure everyone across the business follows the same procedures.
The variety! No two days are the same and it’s always very busy! And I love working with my team – they are amazing. Being office–based, we have to work closely together, and we are all very good at supporting each other as we work through any challenging days.
I have a varied background. After graduating from Camberwell School of Art in London I spent eight years as Research and Development Manager for an artisan tile company in Wiltshire. After that I ran my own catering business, before moving back home to Blackpool in 2001 and working for the Land Registry until the office closed in 2007.
I also ran an art-based business for ten years, before moving to Inspired. On joining the business, I worked in a client-centric team for a year before heading up the Admin Team. In April 2024, the Admin team merged with the Office Management team to create a new team called Office Services.
Live each day. The older I get, the more I realise that we have to see the blessings in every single day. I find happiness in simple pleasures, and this keeps me grounded.
I like to paint in my spare time. Currently I’m working on landscapes, or perhaps what I would call ‘skyscapes’. I love all the different colours and textures that clouds create – sunset, sunrises and stormy skies (my current favourite). I have also illustrated children’s books and hope to do more of this in the future.
I also really enjoy cooking for my friends and family, particularly Thai and Indian food. When I travel, I try to work out how a dish has been created and then replicate it home. A recent challenge was an Egyptian red hummus recipe which had about 20 ingredients in it!
