A day in the life
Want to know more about working at Inspired?
I am a Design Engineer within the technical services team. My role starts with understanding projects from the conceptual stage and identifying the client’s requirements. From there, our team develops initial design ideas.
Once the ideas are approved, I move onto preparing and issuing detailed designs, technical documents and coordinate the structural team and other suppliers involved to ensure final design is efficient.
I support optimising designs for better efficiency and preparing detailed technical drawings and design documents for mounting system and inverter installations. I also issue out documents ready for construction to the project managers and other suppliers involved with the project.
Moreover, I attend site visits with my colleagues, which is a great way to see how designs translate into real-world conditions. This also ensures accuracy and helps me gain practical experience.
I really enjoy being a part of the technical services team. Our team is collaborative, supportive and friendly. We have design meetings almost every day where we can discuss our approach and get feedback on how we can improve and learn from each other – I really enjoy these meetings.
I also enjoy the site visits – so much! We get to interact with clients and have conversations in real time so we can all contribute to creating effective solutions. I also get to learn more about the technical sides beyond my scope, which helps me understand a project from a multidisciplinary perspective.
My role also allows me to participate in professional development and training initiatives to enhance my technical expertise – which I highly appreciate.
I got into this industry through my academic background in architecture, which sparked my interest in sustainable design and energy efficiency. So, I completed my masters in Renewable Energy and Architecture from University of Nottingham. This helped me combine my architecture interests but also focus more on impactful sustainable solutions.
I joined Inspired as a graduate design engineer, which gave me an opportunity to combine my knowledge and get hands-on experience with innovative energy efficiency and carbon reduction projects.
Best advice I’ve received was from one of my professors: “Always keep an open mind.”
He’d say this whenever he taught something new, and these words have always helped me open to new ways of approaching something. It reminds me to stay curious and embrace innovations which are crucial within the industry.
I’m someone who loves everything creative: I love watching art and how people express themselves through different forms of art. I have a passion for drawing portraits – it helps me stay focused and explore various emotions.
Other than that, I enjoy long walks, exploring new cafes and going to the movies with my husband.
