A day in the life
Want to know more about working at Inspired?
I am a Senior Project Manager within the Technical Services Team. I started with Inspired when IU Energy were looking to ramp up the technical services team.
My role is construction-based, mostly in the early stages of a project. However, I have a view over the whole lifecycle of our projects. I generally deal with our clients – of various sizes – to roll out Project Management processes.
My team supports me in this, specifically with our H&S compliance under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, or CDM. Moreover, we develop and produce plans, programmes and methodologies on how we will evolve our projects. This is to ensure our projects are set out right from the start.
My role involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders – including clients, funders, H&S consultants, supply chains, subcontractors and other CDM duty holders.
As a team, we roll out carbon reduction technologies such as Solar PV and Biomass – with solar currently in the limelight.
My role is multi-faceted: I get to see everything a project has to offer from H&S, compliance, design (mechanical and electrical), commercial/financial and contractual aspects – all the way through to management of sites currently in construction. No two days are the same.
I started my career in a consultancy as a Junior Quantity Surveyor on MoD projects. However, I cut my teeth in project controls and project management, mostly on Civil Engineering projects in Railways and Highways.
I graduated in Construction Management from the University of West London as a mature student in 2015 and became involved in large overhead line equipment projects in rail and major Projects at Highways England as a Project Manager.
I didn’t plan to head into energy or renewables – I kind of fell into it! I was looking for my next opportunity just as the effects of COVID started to dissipate. Luckily, Project Management in construction has many transferable skills and has been useful to bring across best practices that have been used from outside of our industry.
My inner Project Manager slips out in every aspect of my life.
“What’s the worst that can happen … no, seriously, write it down.”
I am a very risk orientated person, especially in my career. Some see it as pessimistic, but I like to see it as prepared.
Also, “It is what it is”. If I can’t control it, change it or influence it, there’s nothing I can do so I shouldn’t waste energy on it.
Instead, I should focus on things I can control, change or influence.
Other than being a proud girl-dad of a strong independent little girl, I am generally just a bit of a nerd: Movies, film, games and music. I proudly declare I am one of the few people who still rely heavily on physical media over digital streaming for music and film.
I’m also a keen photographer. My proudest moment was photographing Alien Ant Farm, POD, DMA’s and Goldie Lookin’ Chain from the pit, and getting my images reshared by a couple members of Alien Ant Farm.
