A day in the life

Want to know more about working at Inspired?

My role on the service desk is where I spend most of my time, I am the agent you are most likely to speak to if you have an IT issue. I work within my team to make sure all services and processes are running smoothly, and user devices are functioning as they should. I’m always happy to help!

My day-to-day role is incredibly varied. We have a multitude of projects on the go at one time. I can be involved in security issues such as patching and updating servers and user devices. I also work on automating and simplifying service desk processes using scripting.

No day is ever the same. And I’m constantly learning new and interesting things! It’s also fast-paced, and you are never short of things to do.

Every day brings a new challenge—whether it’s something to research or a different problem to troubleshoot. I’m always up for something new, and this job never fails to deliver.

Before I started working in IT, I was incredibly unsure of where I wanted to be. I have worked in a multitude of jobs and industries throughout the years, and nothing has ever clicked.

But through working in these different fields, I slowly worked out my strengths and what brought me joy in the workplace. I love fixing things, creating things, working with customers and using computers. The only logical step was to try and break into the IT industry.

This was an incredibly hard thing to do, as I had no prior experience. I am always ready and willing to learn, which I hoped would play to my favour.

And after countless interviews and applications, just on the verge of giving up after months of trying – I finally found Inspired offering an excellent stepping stone into the industry. I applied, interviewed and was offered an apprenticeship.

I was sceptical at first as I thought Id be too old to be doing an apprenticeship. But they put my mind at rest. Being able to do an apprenticeship allowed me to gain experience while also gaining a qualification that will help me enormously in future as my career develops.

I’d say advice from one of my best friends in my early 20s when I was struggling with my mental health as many of us do. I was in the habit of holding my feelings close to my chest and not allowing myself to express my issues or grievances.

He simply told me it’s so much better to talk about how you’re feeling, and he was there to listen. After talking about my issues, I found myself feeling so much better than before.

Ever since that day, I haven’t demonized my feelings, and I’ve allowed myself to talk about anything that bothers me to anyone who is willing to listen.

This is incredibly important to me and helps me keep a rosy outlook on situations that I would, in the past, just kept to myself.

And this is advice I’d give to anyone, please talk about things that bother you. It’s incredibly freeing. I’m always free to talk.

I have quite a few hobbies and passions that I float between. I love drawing, mainly traditional tattoo art. I occasionally take a commission or two if I’m feeling particularly creative.

I also love running. I’ve been training since 2021; I started doing couch to 5k when I could barely run for thirty seconds. Now I’m training to do a half marathon.

I’m also obsessed with travel and specifically, planes. You can find me most weekends at Manchester airport, either watching planes at the runway visitor park, or on a plane. I also flew a plane for the first time last year and I’m excited to do it again!
